A lot of times, when "smart" or "educated" people talk, they choose to use big, flowery, fancy words that most people don't understand. In fact, a lot of the time they themselves don't know what the words mean! These words are known as pretentious diction. Of course, both "pretentious" and "diction" are also big words that nobody knows...
